The ED/BC Podcast. You think you hate it now, but wait until you listen to it.

Welcome back to another edition of the EDBC Podcast, the NBA finals edition of the EDBC podcast, Brian. The New York Knicks, we know they were in the finals, and now we know their opponent, the San Antonio Spurs. You're a Celtic fan, so I know you don't care, but uh what are your thoughts when you saw Knicks Spurs? Well, I'm also a basketball fan, and I said I, you know, I think uh it's a fun matchup. I I think if you had to choose between these two teams, if you're a Knicks fan, uh, and you're if you're a Knicks fan, like, dude, you just you're happy. The Knicks are fans are literally like they this is not BS. You're happy to be there. But I think this gives you a little bit better matchup. I know OKC was hurt, and that's probably one of the reasons they lost to their game seven at home. Uh, and Wemby's awesome, but I think this will be a fun series. I think they would have had a little, I think I'm not gonna do I'm not turning into the I'm not doing the Zach Lowe crap where we're doing the whole big matchups, but um I don't I like Zach. I didn't mean to like that, but I think he's uh the you know NBA guy, NBA reporter. Sorry, sorry, Zach. Um, but I think this is a good matchup for the Knicks. I think it's a fun matchup, and I think, you know, you mean as good as OKC was last year and was for most of this year, you know the folks uh in the NBA offices are wedding themselves to have Wemby in Madison Square Garden uh next week. That's awesome to the league, and I think it'll be fun. Um, it kind of sucks is like, you know, last time I'm sitting around and we my wife's birthday was yesterday. We had a lovely day. We took the kids out. The kids and I took the wife out for dinner, got home a little before eight. And there's nothing to watch here, there's no basketball, there's our Stanley Cup playoffs. There's like a Chicago Club St. Louis cargo game. I don't know why my voice is rising like this. Go on, stop, please. I'll be ready to rock and roll with uh, and I'm sure the Knicks will. I'm looking as a as a neutral fan, I think I'm just looking forward to uh hopefully it will be a fun series. That means you had to spend time with your family and your wife on her birthday. You didn't have to disappear into the the basement watching uh sports. You stayed with your family, played a little backgammon, a little monopoly or something, a little family bonding, buddy, with it with your wife and your two daughters. We did have a little family. We we did have a little family bonding. I couldn't escape. So uh it's dead on Wednesday. Uh but um so as a neutral fan, yeah. I think uh we'll get well there are we'll do a predictions because we're we're always we're prognosticators and we're we we always predict correctly. But as a Nick fan, Nick. Nick's and six, Brian. You have been Knicks and six. I'm hearing a lot of that. Um and I know you as a Knicks fan, your your your Knicks passion has been rekindled and you're excited. And Nick's and six, interesting. Now, listen, the most important game of the series is game one, Brian. Uh then the Knicks have to come in there. Uh, folks, if you don't know, the series starts in the Western Conference this year. So San Antonio gets games one and two, Wednesday and Friday in San Antonio, and then Monday and Wednesday next week, games three and four in New York. And then are they doing game five on Saturday, Brian? I don't remember. I think they give them an extraordinary. I have to look. I just know when I looked uh yes last night or the night before that I was like, oh, next weekend no basketball either. Bravo, bravo. Um but I think it's Wednesday, Friday, Monday, Wednesday. That's the first four games. And I don't recall I believe it's Saturday after that, but I am checking right now. I'm always prepared by prepared, always prepared, meaning I'm prepared late. So uh yeah, game five, if necessary, we'll be back in San Antonio on Saturday, uh June 30th. O'clock. Eight o'clock. Well, these are all showing eight thirty, so they're going to do all of the eight thirties. Which you guys didn't know, Eric, on ABC slash EASPN. Maybe this might impact your work potential summit. If it says EB ABC says 830, we're talking 845 tip. When will game six be? Would they go all the way to Tuesday or would they do that? Game six would be, yeah. So game six, no, game six, yeah. So Saturday be back in San Antonio. Game six, where you're saying the Knicks will clinch, we'll be back in the garden on um Tuesday. And then if we have to go to game seven, which would be fun, we'll do that Friday back in San Antonio. So you could be you could be ping-ping-pinging between Saturday and Friday if it goes five, six, and seven. Tuesday, game six, getting way ahead of ourselves, has the potential to be a disaster in New York City because there's a World Cup game at the MetLife Stadium that afternoon. And New Jersey transit, I believe, is stopping service or only having service between MetLife and um uh Penn Station. Penn Station, yeah. Yeah, so there's a specific the trains are only going back and forth. So if you're a Knicks fan in New Jersey, you're gonna have to find another way into the city that day, is basically what I'm telling you. But either anyway, I'm excited, Brian. Uh Steph Castle, former UConn star, obviously be uh someone we'll keep our eye on for San Antonio. You mentioned Wemby, he is the big attraction. He is uh amazing player to watch. I'm hoping the Knicks can wear him out. I'm hoping he's worn out after playing in the series against Oklahoma City. Uh Steph Castle had a great night the other night, 16 points in a game seven, uh doing all the little things. He's just such a winning player, Brian. Um, you know, following him in his college career and now in the NBA, I didn't know what he was. And he just kind of does a little bit of everything for the team. He's not really a point guard, he's not really a two-guard. He's just kind of a a kind of gritty player that could do a little bit of everything and does everything. He's penalted all those things. And uh yeah, I think he averaged 18 points for them during the uh Western Conference playoffs, which is pretty good. I think he's you know, I kind of you know that positionless basketball we talk about now. He could play, you know, he can play in the backcourt, he can play out on the wing, which he does a lot. Good defender, which we knew in in college. So um yeah, I think it'll be fun. Um I again, I think this is uh Styles make matchups. Um I don't know what the Knicks I'm still trying to figure out. We haven't mentioned that Mitchell Watkins and when the Knicks big men broke his pinky, they're they're being very secretive as how he broke his pinky. He didn't break it in the game. They said he didn't break it in practice, but he broke it. Uh but he's he would have been imperative either way, because uh the you know, if it would have been OKC, they have so much size. And with uh the Spurs, they're gonna need to throw bodies at Wamby. So he will be important. And I think it almost works out in their favor. He doesn't have to score a lot with his bad hand, he just has to play defense and quite frankly, Eric, be available to take some fouls away from Carl Anthony Towns and not and keep Towns out of foul trouble, if that makes sense. No, absolutely. Um it's gonna be interesting to see. Like I heard some people say, should they put Mitchell Robinson and Towns in the game at the same time? I don't think that's a good idea. No, I just offensively you don't have to guard Robinson when he's in the game. Just use him to bang around um Wemby. And then also in the NBA Cup Ryan, this is a rematch, not only the 1999 finals, but it's a rematch of the NBA Cup from earlier this year. How do you not talk about that? I mean, come on. Now you know, and I know, and everybody, you know, I saw that too, and you know perfectly well that absolutely positively nobody, with the exception of it being five Knicks fans and five Stanislawing Spurs fans, had any recollection of that. I could, if you had asked me two days ago before I read that, who was in the NBA, who won the NBA Cup in December, I'll give you a million dollars. You get the right answer. I would have walked away penniless. I would have had no, I would have had no idea. Someone would have to jar in my memory that the Knicks uh hung a banner for that stupid thing. Go or go go hang out go hang a real banner for the first time in 53 years. Got a chance. Go do it. I don't think they did hang a banner, but good. That was a debate that they did not, but you know damn well the NBA is going to use that as part of their marketing for next year's. Hey, the NBA Finals. It's a preview of the NBA Finals of what's to come. It was last year, blah, blah, blah. I did see some video from that game, by the way, and it was OG and anobi was guarding Wemby and really banging him around during that game. So I'm curious to see. Uh, the Knicks have some long forwards, so I'm curious to see if they try to pester him or put size on him. You definitely got to get him away from the basket, as you mentioned. But I mean, just watching him, Brian, I told you two weeks ago I thought he looked like Karim Abdul Jabbar on steroids, but the guy's wingspan, his ability to dunk from what seems like the foul line when he reaches for the basket. Yeah. It's unbelievable watching him play. Uh I mean, listen, as a Knicks fan, obviously I'm going to pick the Knicks, but um I again, like I said before, game one is the most important thing, Brian. The Knicks have got to come out. If they can somehow keep the momentum going, not come out slow like they did. Remember in remembering game one against the Cleveland Cavaliers, they came out rusty and we're 22 down with seven minutes to go. And had a sort of big comeback. You're not doing that against Spurs. We sort of forgot about that. You know, I that's sort of it's hard to believe, but I sort of forgot about that first game because they steamrolled the Cavaliers after that. Um the Spurs, by the way, because I am watching, I'm still trying to decide on my pick. Spurs and according to FanDuel, I'm not trying to uh, you know, fan duel, not saying in our response, I'm just checking their line. They have it as an 840 tip on Wednesday. The Spurs, a slight four and a half point favorite. I saw for the series. The Spurs are minus 220. So they're pretty that's a pretty significant you know, the wise guys think it that they're a pretty significant favorite in this series. I don't, but again, I've watched so much of the Knicks in the last few weeks to Kill and kind of feel like they look unbeatable. I will probably this is a lane pick, I will say Spurs in seven. I I I don't know. It feels like it's like a I'm not sure who to pick, so I'll just take I'll I'll go the full seven games and I'll default to the home team. Although quite this is I saw a great stat yesterday in terms of like winning and losing game sevens. With the Spurs beating OKC uh Saturday night in game seven in Oklahoma City, the last game sevens in the Western Conference, the home teams are owned five. There's a lot of stats. I was amazed by that. Yeah, there's a lot of stats floating around. Of course, the one about rest, I guess teams with as much the Knicks the Knicks have played four games since April 23rd. Yeah. That's crazy. Four games. Four games. And they were talking about when this has happened in the past where teams have had long layoffs. I think the teams with the long layoffs have won seven of the last nine NBA finals. So if you put if you put a stock into something like that, uh I don't know, man. I just uh like I said, I'm just thrilled the Knicks are part of this, Brian. It's been a long wait. Um, they they're they're peaking at the right time. All of their players are playing well. I love what they said after their victory. Like, no one was drinking beer, popping champagne. They went right back to work. Uh Carl Anthony Towns the other day in his availability on Friday said, like, we learned from the Cleveland series. We were restructuring our practice and we're trying to stay sharp. We did some things wrong when we played before the Cleveland series. And so I think that'll help them as well. I mean, listen, I'm just trying to paint as rosy a picture as I can for the Knicks because I want them to win, and I think it'll be an unbelievable atmosphere in New York City if they ever were able to win a championship. The city needs another title, Brian. Definitely. Especially if they would have or were able to win it at home. And you know, I I know what you're saying about game one. You can steal game one, and that's always such a big deal. It feels like it's a big deal on the road. Obviously, Eric, they've got to win one of the two in San Antonio. They've got to. Um you don't want this winning streak to be fluky. You want you want this winning streak to stick. Because if the Knicks go and lose by 25 on Wednesday night to San Antonio, everyone's gonna say, oh, yeah, I told you the Eastern Conference is a joke, blah, blah, blah. Exactly. Although I did see a stat, Brian, I don't know if you saw it. I think I retweeted it was uh Western Conference versus Eastern Conference. It was like basically throughout the league, it was basically a 500 record against each other. So there wasn't this overwhelming disparity. You would think that the West had beaten the East 70% of the time. No, they basically played 500 against each other. So I mean, it is what it is. Yeah, and what I kind of like, this isn't so much about the Knicks and Spurs, it's just about what's going on in the NBA. It's not really a stat, but just, you know, we grew up in the era of the 80s and uh were dominated by the Lakers and the Celtics, then you had the Pistons, then you had the 90s with the Bulls, the yachts, you had the uh the Lakers and the Spurs, multiple teams, multiple championships, Golden State and the Teens, multiple championships. Eric, we're about to crown an eighth different NBA championship for the in eight years. That's unbelievable for this league. This league has never seen parody like this, ever. So that's listen. And all the sports, Brian, you mean take a look at some of the World Series champions. He's had a lot of parody in Major League Baseball as well. The Dodgers obviously went back to back, but before that, I mean, it's it's been pretty good. So we'll see. Uh, we're again Wednesday night. We're gonna talk later in the week, Brian. I just confirmed it Thursday or Friday with Mike Vicaro, who's a New York Post columnist. We've been talking about him for a couple weeks. He's been running around. He was in Cleveland, uh, but he said he's available Thursday or Friday. So we'll have an EDBC podcast later this week with Mike, who's gonna be covering the team. He's going to San Antonio, and then he'll be back uh in New York on Thursday and Friday to talk to us about his experience in San Antonio. Um, or from San Antonio. He'll be in San Antonio when he when we talk to him. So looking forward to that as well, Brian. All right, yeah, that'll be fun. So listen up, folks. You get a little extra content and no extra cost this week. It's pretty good. Pretty good, pretty good. So we'll come back, we'll talk a little more NBA and also some baseball. His Brian's Mets have won four in a row. Have they finally righted the ship? Got some players coming back from injuries. Remember a couple years ago, Brian, this was around the time of the year they fired. So we'll keep our fingers crossed. Hopefully, your Mets can uh start winning some ball games, despite the fact the schedule's gonna get a little tougher over the next couple weeks. So we'll talk about that and more on the EDBC podcast. All right, well, folks, if I don't I didn't even tell you every week, I mean, come on, if you're gonna shop from home, use Instacart. So remember, this summer, shall uh shop save, shop excuse me, shop from home and save with Instacart. The good thing about the Knicks being in the NBA Finals, they're cleaning up the subway. Some uh orange and blue paint being put on some of the subway entrances around MSG. So trying to make the downtown look a little purdy as you're getting ready for the NBA to come to town. So uh again. Are we sure that wasn't from the Mets, the orange, the glow? Oh, I'm pretty sure. Oh, go ahead. Come on, you brought it up. Let's tell me how you feel. Let's let's uh you got four in a row. Hey, listen, if anything else, Brian, the team is watchable right here. I mean, the Marlowe's are bad, don't get me wrong, but the same team the beat the Mets two out of three last weekend. So, I mean, it is what it is. But you got some young players, teams won four in a row. The heat's off the manager a little bit now. A little bit, a little bit. Um at a press conference last week. Soto's hitting home runs. So yeah, he's been unbelievable. He had a great May. Uh he's fun to watch. Um, I wish they had somebody behind him. If only they could have found a first baseman who plays over there. He hits 35 down runs, but alas, I move on. Uh yeah, so you know, it's uh we always have to peel over the Mets parade. So as someone, as uh I was pointing out yesterday, the Mets uh went had a winning May went 15 and 12. 16 and 12. Wow, a winning May. And now they're about to uh go about another nine to but a nine-week stretch here, Eric, where they will not play any team that is below 500 currently. So that'll be fun, including tonight in Seattle. And by the way, I don't usually complain like say like my team's getting a raw deal and all that crap. I'm usually four goddamn West Coast trips before on before on June for by June 1st. Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. Goodness gracious. In the stupid interleague play, you gotta go, you gotta go play, they're playing the Seattle Mariners this week, you know, to revive that age-old rivalry of the New York Nets and the Seattle Mariners. Whoop to do. So uh but yeah, all you want, Eric, is to maybe give you give your base, you just want your baseball team, as I said, we say all the time, just give you a little some reason to pay attention during the summer until foot until football gets it. How about the Yankees yesterday, Brian? Scoring 13 runs in the third inning, 10 runs before an out was recorded, and not one home run hit in the entire inning. When you think of the Yankees, you think of home runs. Not one home run. I think they batted eight 18 batters. They went around the they batted around twice. Took 43 minutes to play the top of the third inning. Oh my god. It's like if you were like playing, it's a video game. If somebody like, all right, let's put it on rookie league, like put it on rookie. Okay, turn it off rookie mode. We're gonna play here all afternoon because they're never gonna get any like like just just just play the game level. But no, it's it was I I I saw that. I didn't see the game. I saw that, and I said, I don't know what that says about the Yankees or about what that says about the athletics, but that is that was that's bizarre. But it's very interesting. And I and you mentioned the the Mets being on the West Coast, Brian. I gotta be honest with you, I heard someone talking about this the other day, and I agree. It's an inconvenience at times, but you know, I got home on Friday night and my wife is falling asleep. She went upstairs. I'm like, I'll meet you up there. And I was downstairs by myself watching the Knicks or the excuse me, the Yankees in the A's on West Coast. It's nice once in a while to watch a game at 10 o'clock at night. It doesn't bother me at all. It frees you up to do the family stuff early. And then if you want to sit down and watch a team without getting hassled about anything, the West Coast trip comes in handy once in a while. I don't disagree with you. It's just the four times four four times in less and four times the first two months of the season is where I'm a little like that's okay occasionally, but like, you know, then they're gonna go. I don't know. I think they're gonna play the California. I'm sorry, what are they called now? The Los Angeles Angels or whatever. Yeah, Savannah, correct. So I don't know. I mean Well, they're going to Seattle to San Diego, right? That's where they're going, I think. Seattle to San Diego. I believe so. So maybe they'll uh maybe getting out of New York. You know what it is? Freeze them up, they're gonna be away while the Knicks own the city. Come back after a winning road trip. I'm sure they'll have a they'll have a great road trip, come back home on a high note. That's what I want. Well, the thing is so they'll they'll well, the thing is the Knicks will be on the road while they're on the road as well. So they everyone will be home next week, I believe, right? The Mets will be home next week. I think the Yankees might be. The Yankees are starting a series at home. So the Yankees will be on the road next week, I believe, but the Mets and Knicks will both be playing at home at the same time. In in an in the World Cup soccer, we've got to talk about as well. So there's lots going on. And then there's the U.S. Open's coming up soon, too. They're playing at where that at Beth Page or something. So they'll be trapped. Is it Shinnecock? I don't even know where it's Shinnecock. I think you're right. It's Shinnicok. It is Shinnicock, not Beth Page. It's Shinnecock, 100%. So uh that's gonna be a busy time in the New York metropolitan area for the for the sports. I I I mean, listen, uh the World Cup, I was talking about it at work yesterday, just to get on a tangent here for a second. I I I have no interest in that, Brian. No interest. Zero. I mean, to me, it's more like it's about the watch parties and the people of their home countries, you know, uh having a little fun. But as far as the juice from it, uh I mean, if the team USA is playing for a World Cup title, I guess I'll be into it. But other than that, I mean we talked about it at work. Like, how much do we do about the World Cup? I mean, uh I don't know. I guess we're we are, Eric, we are the ugly Americans. It's the great, it's by far, you know, the biggest sport in the world outside of this country. So we not just the ugly Americans. I'm more excited for Cowboys Training Camp and for the World Cup. And I'm not really all that pumped for Cowboys Training Camp, but you know, and funny, at work yesterday, a couple of 25-year-olds I'm working with, and one of them said, you know, soccer is the biggest sport in the world, and before you know it, it's gonna be even bigger here. And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa. I've been hearing that since I was 10 years old. I I couldn't have said in front of myself, but hearing that my whole damn life. I said the reason it's popular in America is because it's easy for young kids to play. You get 20 kids on a field with one ball. That's it. It's great youth sport. It's you know, college and high school is great too, but it's never gonna take over the NFL or NBA or major. They don't score enough. There's there's not enough scoring. Americans want to watch people score. They want to watch people dunk, they want to watch people hit home runs, they want to watch people throw touchdown passes, they don't want to watch soccer. I mean, it is to it listen, every once in a while they do, but it's not gonna be an everyday thing. It it it it goes against what we know is a sport. Now, the good thing I do, I I do like about it is that it's you the games are usually done within two hours. But I might I used to drive my wife nuts because I did watch the last final a couple four years ago and and a couple of the games, and when they do the extra time, but you don't know how much time is left, and they're like, why don't you just put a why don't you just put a clock on? Like, we're just doing extra time here, and all of a sudden the ref the ref blows the whistle and the game's over. And we're like, well, why didn't they know that? They'll put a plus five or a plus four on the side, but there's no exact time. I know it's one of those little things that makes no sense. Just like yesterday in the Yankee game. You got umpires wearing microphones. They have a big delay on the field because they're they're talking about whether or not there was an obstruction play in the game. Turn your mic on of microphone on a second, let people know what's going on. I mean, this is not hard. It's not hard. Um, anyway, uh quick things I want to mention. You mentioned the football, the training camp, the Giants working out OBJ again. Odell Beckham Jr. So that worried. Me that Malik neighbors may not be coming back sooner than than we think, Brian. Well, there's a couple that that that's a great point because you also remember that John Harbaugh, I think, a couple weeks ago. And you know, the Giants have sort of been out of the news recently, haven't they? Haven't really seen much of the Giants, have we? No, they've been quite quiet all season. John Harbaugh said, and I don't know if he meant to say it like this, because I think eyebrows were raised. Yes. He said this was not a nor this was not a normal knee injury. Excuse me? We had not heard that before, Eric. You know, we hear about ACL Terries, you know, we're reading about Mahomes and Micah Parsons, and they might miss the start of the season, but we're not hearing things like and I, you know, we kind of you get conditioned to sort of think, okay, but he'll be back. But then that sort of raised some some eyebrows, I think. I'm not sure OBJ, who hasn't played in almost two years, is a difference maker, but I guess he would be a depth piece. So it's a I guess it's a cool story, but I don't know that it moved I don't I'm not sure it moves the needles in terms of football wins and losses. Yeah. One thing I want to mention real quick is uh I know we got a lot of pop culture stuff we want to get into. Two other things. Serena Williams announced she's coming out of retirement to play mixed doubles uh next week, I think in this day in Queens. I don't know where she's playing. No, something like that. She's playing uh there's a tournament, a pre-Wimbledon tournament in Wim at Wimbledon, they all it's called like the all England, the Queens All England Grass something rather tournament in London. Again, pre-Wimbledon tournament, and apparently she's playing at that. So does that mean she's playing at Wimbledon? I don't know that she has an exception to, but I guess we'll find out. By the way, they they already put out a commercial on Nike, so this is something they've been working on for a few weeks, obviously, because on X on all social media, there's a Nike commercial about her coming back. So I'm I'm normally surprised that that that would be a good thing. I understand. Uh, big anniversary for Mets fans today, Brian. You want to talk about that real quick? A big anniversary for you guys? Yeah, uh, absolutely. Um, it was uh June 1st, 2012. I can't believe it's 14 years ago. Eric brings this up just so we can bring up the fact that it hit the ball hit the foul line. But third June 1st, 14 years ago, Johan Santana pitched the first, and I know they pitched combined one a couple years ago, and I get heat on social media when I like when I say that's not a real no-hitter, the first uh no-hitter in Met's history, and as far as Brian's concerned, the only Met uh no-hitter in Mets history. Um I was watching that game. We actually it was like Friday night or Saturday night because we had a couple, we had friends over and we're like doing the like the grilling in the backyard with the you know all this and all that. Just happened to throw the Mets game on. Like I think there was music on the Mets game, it was on mute. And around the fifth inning, turned the music off and turned off the mute button. And just a bunch of us sitting around watching the game. So it was a great memory. And I know you're gonna pee all over it because had it been ha had it happened today, it would have been overturned Brainstant Replay. I don't care. It's still a no-hitter. Come on, this is why you bring it up. Just we got a long all day here in the show. Just point it out. The other thing I could bring up. It's not LOL Mets, but it just sometimes I'm like, I mean, do we have to put Lee Mazzilli in the Mets Hall of Fame yesterday? And then the guy hit 260 and had like 20 home runs in his career. He's in the Mets Hall of Fame. We're not they're not the New York Yankees. There's not a hell of a lot to choose from. I've been to the Mets I you've probably never been going to the Mets Hall of Fame in City Field. I was in there, it was funny it's fun to look around. It's totally a fan thing, so I get it, but I also get the fact that it's yeah, it's not now. He was a beloved Met during the worst years of the Mets. So and someone's like, people complain, why is Joe Torrey there? Well, he was the manager of the Mets when both those guys played with the Mets. He Joe Torrey is part of Mets history for better or for worse. It absolutely is. He was but Lee was a Matt Neon. He was a good-looking guy that women loved, and he was a reason, you know, he was a sex symbol on the baseball field. But as far as being Hall of Fame, but it was nice to see his uh son LJ Mazzilli was there with him. Yeah, Bobby Valentine, by the way, just having no clue, talking for 20 minutes, just shut up and take your award. Oh my god. Did you think that's but that's Bobby V, and you know Bobby a little bit. I don't know him, you know him a little bit. I mean, the fact that he was uh a little talkative, not surprising. Um, he's such a ham cracks me up, man. Just cracks me up. I think before we get off sports, too, and then we haven't talked about this. We're talking about guys who used to coach in New York and who are a little bit of personalities and maybe a little bit of acquired taste. Uh Stanley Cup final start tomorrow night. How about John Tortorella? Torch, the old New York Ranger coach, who like this would be a huge story if it happened in like in the NFL. Like two weeks before the regular season ends, the Vegas Knights, who had a pretty good regular season, just can their head coach. Bruce Castell. Tortorella's yeah, Tortorella sitting at Bruce Cassie, the old yeah, the old Bruins coach. Yeah. And Tortorella's sitting at home, they just say, Hey, John, you want to come to Las Vegas and coach us? In the NFL, like a like that'd be like a Bill Cower, someone just like the Giants fired uh Aaron Glennon and hired Bill Cower like on Thanksgiving, and they ended up going to the playoffs. And they're about and now they're playing for the Stanley Cup and they've been scammerlowing teams. I just wanted to mention that. That's a powerful. I love Torres, Brian. I love him. Me too. You go on YouTube and type in John Tortorella, you're gonna go down a rabbit hole. Trust me, there's lots of good stuff on there. But he torturella has the reputation of the Bucks Show Walters, the the Billy Martin types. They're great for the first couple years, and then their act wears thin. They players stop listening to them because they're hard asses on the players, and these days players don't want that, kind of like Tom Thibodeau kind of rant more on his welcome with the Knicks. Like they're tough and have high expectations, and after about three, four years, players stop listening to them. But hey, short term, it's great. I mean, I'm I'm gonna root for Las Vegas because it's been 20 years, but the guy does did win a cup in Tampa Bay, and uh it looks and he he actually really helped, I think, turn the Rangers around in the early teens after uh you know a lot of years of no playoffs. So yeah, I just thought it's a cool story I wanted to mention it. It is, absolutely. Hey, uh, we're gonna take a timeout quick, and then Brian's gonna do some birthdays. We're gonna get on out of here at 12:30. We're taping this on a Monday afternoon. So, Brian, we'll take a timeout. We'll come back. You got some uh birthdays for us. All right, quick just a reminder that uh you can always reach out to us. Uh we we do answer the email, and if you want to reach out to us with suggestions, thoughts, criticisms, or complaints, most complaints could be directed towards Eric. Or reach out to us at the EDBC Podcast where our email address is edbcpodcast at gmail.com. Remember, just reach out anytime edbcpodcast gmail.com, and uh we'd love to hear back, and maybe you've got some suggestions. We'll mention it on the air. Uh, you got some birthdays on here, and I'm not gonna lie, I do know a couple of them, so I apologize. But it is also an anniversary of one of your favorite movies of all time. Which one is that? What did I do wrong? One of your favorite movies of all time. Well, yesterday was the uh anniversary of Fletch. That's it. There you go. Okay, okay. Yesterday, yeah, yesterday. We talked about this last year, it turned 40 last year. Yeah, Fletch, one of my top ten favorite movies, turned 41 yesterday. So, yeah, that's kind of cool. Real quick about that, I was talking to my wife and my daughter and her boyfriend who were over here yesterday, and I said, Oh, Fletch is a great movie, and we started rattling off movies, and my wife turned to me and she said, They won't understand any of the jokes. And it made me sad, right? It made me sad. We talked, my kids were talking about movies they want to see, and we my wife said, We've really got to uh have you guys watch some movies from like the 80s this summer when you have some time. And they the response was they already did Ferris Buller, but the the response was lukewarm, but we'll see how that goes. All right, I'm gonna run off this birthdays. Go ahead. I'm gonna run off this very quickly, just ten seconds left. This is a very famous day in Yankee history. What is the famous famous about what happened 101 years ago today? So it'd be what, 1925? June of 1925. Was that when uh Lou Gehrig streak started? Correct. Nice job. Uh came in to be uh pinch it for a shortstop, whose name uh is Pee-Wee something, not Pee-Wee Reese before him, uh lost to the Washington Centers. First, and that he would not he would not miss the game for the next 2,130 consecutive games. So Wally Pip, right? Wally Pipp, Wally Pip. So our first guy uh was not he's not quite 101, but he's still with us. One of my favorite actors, Clint Eastwood has a birthday, Eric. Had a birthday yesterday. How old is Clinton? You might know this. Do you already know this one? All right. I do. Yes, how old? He is 96. And Brian, if you're a Clint Eastwood fan, and social media is a joy during days like this because they put all the two-minute dirty hearing clips out. Love it. You know, go ahead, make my day. Do you feel lucky, punk? All that stuff circulating on the internet. Go watch it if you haven't seen it. Go ahead. Yeah, some of it's not uh uh PG. Um of the clips are not PGE. Uh one of the great movies he was in was Unforgiven, one of his co-stars, Unforgiven, also has a birthday that same day. Morgan Freeman. Now, do you know this one or do I give you some choices? All right, Morgan Freeman. Is he 80, 85, or 89? Yeah, I I think he's 89 because I saw somewhere. I forget what it was, but I think he's 89. Go ahead. He is 89. All right, we got just about a minute left. Okay, you the last two, I'm gonna just tell folks, usually don't do these together, but I will. Joe Namath, Joe Willie Namath, and Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Ronnie Wood. So you know one of these, you don't know both of these, right? You must know the Ronnie Wood, right? Because you're a biggest Rolling Stones fan, I know, and I know a lot of them. 79 Ronnie Wood, happy 79th birthday today, Ronnie Wood. So Joe Willie had a birthday yesterday, along with someone else. Again, along my wife shares a birthday with Joe Namath and Clinius Wood and Morgan Freeman. Pretty cool. Nice! All right, so Joe Willie, I did not go out to dinner with Joe Willie last night for his birthday, but I would have if I could have. Is he 80, 83, or 85? I'm gonna say I'm gonna say 83. You got it! You actually nailed all four. See, if we if we leave you half of the ones that you know going in, your record really gets a lot better. I was gonna say, as long as I can cheat ahead of time, I'll do pretty well. Perfect. Do pretty well. So all right. Hey, Brian, thanks for playing along. We're gonna have Mike Riccaro later this week. Uh anything else breaks. Brian's always available. I'm sure he'll be uh texting me annoying times as usual, but he'll keep me on the ball here, and uh, we'll have another EDBC podcast later this week. He mentioned uh the Mets. They're in Seattle, and then they go to San Diego. Mets go five and one, Brian. We'll have something to talk about about your Mets next week. If they go one and five, we'll have something to talk about soon. We absolutely will. So and the Yankees are still do just fine. Not too high, not too low. I don't even know who the Yankees are playing this week, Brian. I have no idea. They're starting a series on Tuesday night at home against bear with me a second. The preparation is key. Against the Guardians, Brian. And then they host the Red Sox. I did know that. So the Red Sox and Yankees will probably be on Apple TV, Fox. You know, they're gonna be on Sunday night on NBC. Oh no. So Sunday 135. That uh that's interesting. Who's gonna be Mets Padres are at 410? And I haven't watched any of the NBC baseball telecasts, Brian, yet, but I'm looking to see 8:30 Giants Cubs on Peacock. 830. It's not bad. I mean, it's not, I mean, again, baseball is never as good as listening to your local guys with your local team, but it's an improvement over what Sunday Night Baseball has been over the last 10 or 15 years. And I've only seen like two games, but it's not bad. All right, but who the hell cares about that? You're all about the Knicks, New York's all about the Knicks this next couple weeks. This will be exciting. We got something to look forward to. Oh, New York, go, New York, go. You heard it here first. Knicks and six, baby. All right, that'll do it for this edition of the EDPC podcast. I'm Eric Keys Brian. Till next time, Brian. Say goodbye. See ya.
